Starbucks Community Service: Message List

Mary's Kitchen

Last week District 450 helped out at Mary's Kitchen. Mary's Kitchen is an all volunteer organization that provides food and services to the homeless of Orange County, California. All monetary donations they receive go directly into the services they provide for their clients. They are a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization. They serve breakfast, a hot meal at 1 pm, sack lunches are also available, showers, clothing, etc.

Thank you to Terri Duran for setting this up for us. Terri, Anthony, Amy, Matt, and myself spent a few hours their bagging up supplies for the lunches, helping others pick out shoes and clothing, organizing the stock room, and preparing lunch for the volunteers. It is always amazing to help out, and to see the look on peoples' faces when you not only show up to help, but do the work. We had a lot of fun and we will never forget Hazel, the volunteer "in charge" of us... Thank you Hazel & Mary's Kitchen!

Excited for Global Month of Service?

Community service is year round, and I know we all do our part, every chance we can! I am looking forward to another Global Month of Service this year, and am curious what everyone has in the works? Anything new? I would love to hear some ideas to help make this year even better than the last.

I love it Gina! Atleast half of my partners walk/bike/skate to work. Granted it has worked out that the majority of my partners live near, or move near my store. But still, we have all discussed this and make an effort to help out. I love the idea of reimbursement for this, that would truly be amazing, and get more to do what they can.

I spoke to the guys at THINK Together, and while they do not have a Book doctor outside of Orange & LA County, there is a THINK Togther in the Sacremento area. Our Contact is Julio Robles, Operations Manager. He can help you get in touch with someone in your area. Hi Gina, our district is Orange County, mostly Orange, Brea, Anaheim & Yorba Linda (I know...all over the place) I think there is a THINK Together near you, I can double check that as I am going to the Book Doctor today at 2. This is one of my favorite things to do, not only because of early literacy (I have 2 young kids myself) but also the convience for my work-life balance as well.

was just at the doctor's office with my youngest, and she was reading one of our books! Well, maybe not exactly one that I cleaned, but still, it was a THINK together book, and I was so proud, and really felt "A Part of" if you know what I mean.
