Valley Trotters Youth Ranch Amazing Experience

The Valley Trotters Youth Ranch's mission is to build character, restore hope, and empower relationships in the youth of our community. They do this through offering a free program to the community's youth where they may learn about horses, interact with horses, and overall build a relationship with the horses at the ranch.

The Ranch is home to 12 horses, most of which have been rescued by the Owner of the Ranch, Mr. Greg Bozard.

Starbucks store, 17371, organized an event where we could help out the ranch. We cleaned up a fence that was overgrown with vegetation that could prove dangerous to the horses and riders. We also thoroughly washed and brushed 12 horses. The work we completed in a single day could have taken more than a year for the owner to do himself. We are glad our work will benefit their amazing program! The VYTR provides such a great program for all participants!

Many of the volunteers at the event had never experienced being near a horse. Despite the dangers presented when dealing with such a large strong species, it was a very memorable event to interact with and brush the horses. We were able to learn a few of the horses' names as well as learn a lot more about what the VTYR program offers to our community. We shared stories of how the Ranch came to be and of Starbucks' interest in helping out their organization. It was a very rewarding feeling to see a great organization thank us for our involvement with the community. The Starbucks Global Community Service Program is but one of many ways to bring our communities together. "One Person, One Cup, One Neighborhood at a time!"

(RED) and World AIDS Day, December 1

Hi Partners-

We wanted to do something special in our stores this World AIDS Day, December 1, especially since and our partners are passionate about the cause.

As you already know, Starbucks will contribute five cents for every handcrafted beverage purchased on that day in all U.S. and Canada stores. In addition, December 1 also kicks off the “12 Days of Sharing” with the (STARBUCKS)RED To- -Go cup and Card designed exclusively by Jonathan Adler, the purchase of each resulting in a contribution to the Global Fund.

I would like to add (STARBUCKS)RED East Africa Blend to part of the discussion during that day to help raise awareness. Here is what is envisioned…

Each store in Florida dedicates a passionate and knowledgeable partner for 4 hours off the floor, set up at an additional KD table (each store different, but same idea as the Taste Challenge) talking about our partnership with (RED), the contribution we provideand the days of medicine they receive. This partner will also be doing coffee tastings with (STARBUCKS)RED East Africa Blend, with a GOAL of selling as many pounds per store as possible. Prepare the partner with enough knowledge so they can comfortably communicate to customers the efforts Starbucks is doing to help improve the lives of those living with HIV and AIDS in Africa. We will have the partners wear little (RED) ribbons with a safety pin, and we can also give those to customers who purchase a (RED) product. Our customers leaving the store with the (RED) ribbon is a great conversation piece with others in the community.

OK Partners- That is the vision.

Now here’s what you need to know……….

Beverage Contribution:

In honor of World AIDS Day (Tuesday, December 1), Starbucks will make a five cent U.S. contribution to the Global Fund through its partnership with (RED) for every handcrafted beverage sold at participating locations in the U.S. and Canada.

Merchandise Contribution:

Additionally, during this Holiday season, (RED)TM and Starbucks have teamed up with celebrity designer Jonathan Adler to create a new limited-edition (STARBUCKS)RED To-Go Cup and (STARBUCKS)RED Card.

Starbucks contributes $1 U.S. to the Global Fund with the purchase of these or any other (STARBUCKS)RED products to help fund programs for AIDS treatment and prevention in Africa.

(STARBUCKS)RED East Africa Blend:

This incredible blend of East African coffees delicately balances a gentle acidity with complex floral and citrus notes. But even more special than the exotic flavors it displays is the hope that it gives.

For every 1 lb bag of (STARBUCKS)RED East Africa Blend sold in the United States and Canada, Starbucks will contribute $1 (U.S.) to the Global Fund to help people living with AIDS in Africa.

As one of the finest coffee-growing regions in the world, Africa holds a special place in our hearts. The relationships we have with coffee farmers and their communities run deep. They are integral to our success and we want to do everything we can to help them thrive. (STARBUCKS)RED East Africa Blend is just one way we’re giving back.

Partnership Background:

Overall, (RED) partners and events have generated $150 million and these funds have supported AIDS programs in Africa that have reached more than 5 million people.

What ideas do you have for engaging customers to volunteer with us? We generally put information on the community board, and while that's gotten a bit of help it didn't have the impact we were hoping.

Locks of Love - Hair Donation

Do any of you know if there is a way that it can be logged as part of the "hours this year"? Or in any way?

I have every intention of doing it regardless, but if it can count towards the company goal, I'd love to submit it!

Thank you for any help you can give me!

24 Hr Location-Community Board Ideas

Currently, my store's community board is very bare. I was brain storming some ideas to revitalize our board seeing how we have one of the most highlighted locations in the south. I initially thought it would be interesting to promote the current forms of donation and share associated pictures and facts. So maybe a Ethos Fund section, with pictures of Starbucks employees helping out with the water crisis in Africa. A Product Red section with HIV/AIDS connections between the East Africa coffee and available Red merchandise. But then I also wanted to bring it to our community, posting pictures of our partners locally fighting for HIV/AIDS awareness within Houston. Other topics so far would be Food Agency Pick Up, Emergency Relief with Red Cross, etc. I'm interested in feedback about my initial ideas as well as any additional thoughts that might enhance the board. I appreciate any feedback ahead of time. Thank you.

Levi Lynn

Post Oak & Westheimer #6360
