Last week, it was decided to move our 8th Annual Boise River Clean Up to Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It was short notice to all but we had an incredible turn out!
Monday, January 16, 2012, partners from stores in district 1075 & 402 joined forces with Collister Elementary on a mission to clean up the Boise River! This was the 8th annual Colliste Elementary-Starbucks Coffee River Clean Up and the most successful yet. Starbucks provided coffee, hot chocolate and pastries for all of the eager volunteers.
Even though it was 30 degrees out and snowing, from 11:15 am-1:15 pm we got 129 volunteers consisting of Starbucks partners, Collister students, Collister teachers and family to make the 3 mile trek around the green belt and pick up over 20 bags full of garbage! We had volunteers ranging from 4 years old on up and everyone was so excited to give back and clean up our environment.
We will apply for a grant and with that Collister Elementary is going to put the money towards their annual spring environmental camp in McCall, ID and other educational activities.
I would like to send a special thanks out to Nikki Longbucco at 3246 (district 1075) & Kristine Goodman at 8832 (district 402) for all of the help putting this awesome event together. I would also like to thank all of the partners that came to help clean up the environment and give back to education, with such short notice!
