Bright Beginnings of Kittitas County (formerly Head Start/ECEAP) is working to establish a children’s garden at their new facility on E. Helena St. in Ellensburg.
-
Most of these children are from families who have little or no opportunity to grow fresh vegetables.

-
The new building site has a wonderful space for a garden for the Bright Beginnings/Head Start community. Gardening will expand the preschool curriculum to include planting, growing, harvesting vegetables and fruit.
-
It will emphasize the importance of good nutrition and healthy eating habits.
-
The children’s garden is being completely funded by grants, donations, and volunteers.
-
The garden will have 4’x8’ raised cedar beds which are being designed and made by a group of CWU students in the Construction Management program and other volunteers.
-
There is an active Garden Advisory committee that has developed the draft garden design.
-
This garden is expected to make a positive difference in the community and it will certainly be a joy for the children to plant, harvest, and eat their own vegetables as part of healthy meals and snacks.
-
We have been writing grants for support of the garden, but these funds are limited so it is important for us to obtain local community donations and support for this project.
