For the past year as I have driven around town and the surrounding areas I have noticed how many cans are along side the road. Last summer I actually started making it my own personal project to go can collecting to sort of help clean it up a little. Since then I have become close to bound and determined to sponsor a city-wide recylcing day in our community through our Starbucks.
I haven't exactly begun planning this yet, as I am a bit overwhelmed at the capacity of the project and the perhaps serious lack of help I would be getting.
Our community doesn't have a recylcing center, why I am not sure! All we have are can recycling locations, but no paper, glass, or cardboard.
I am hoping to find a way to bring in a company from a large city with several MASSIVE recycling bins, broadcast it on the radio and perhaps the local TV stations, and see if the community would take part in making the Earth a little greener, at least here at home.
Has anyone ever attempted such a project? I would greatly appreciate your ideas and feedback, and anything you learned along the way as "what do to" and "what NOT to do"!
You guys rock! Thank you for making a difference- one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time!
Have you ever tried to approach your local government? This is a huge task that you are taking upon yourself (I love your dedication!). It seems to me that the event would be a fantastic (and maybe for many people awakening) thing. What do you think though, will happen when it is over? How long it will take to become the same again?
That is why it is important to press your local authorities to do something about it. There are many examples; I live in Maryland and recycling is mandatory (for businesses and for citizens). It feels really great!
For now, keep doing your share because every little bit counts. I hope that you spark something that becomes big!
Good luck and all the best,
